How do I quit smoking?
Remember the days when you had to wash your hair and clothes after a night out because you smelled so much of cigarette smoke? Maybe you remember, but there was a time when you couldn't smell the scent of your delicious meal because of the fumes of cigarette smoke. That was the norm back then!
Every cigarette not only damages your lungs and heart, but it also costs your body a lot of vitamin C and reduces your detox capacity. And let's not forget the heavy metals and the effect of cigarettes on your cells and blood vessels.
Did you know that smoking one cigarette uses up about the same amount of Vitamin C as eating 5 oranges?
Tips to quit smoking
-
Sweat it out :
Go to the sauna as often as possible in the first weeks of Stoptober. Let your body sweat out that nicotine. Consider a 10-trip card; you'll appreciate it! Of course, lots of exercise/sports and sweating also helps. -
Read a book :
The book "The Relief: In one day of smoking off!" by Jan Geurtz is a great resource. It is definitely worth checking out! -
Make a benefits list:
Write down why you want to quit smoking. Is it to be fitter, save money, get pregnant, or be a positive role model for your child? -
Provide healthy distraction:
Think about what you can do during difficult moments to not smoke. Reading, taking a walk, or calling a friend can be great distractions. -
Stop at once:
Quitting all at once is more effective than gradually reducing. Make that decision and go for it, you can do this! -
Get rid of those cigarettes:
Throw away all cigarettes before your stoptober. Out of your house, coats, bags and car. Make sure there is no temptation nearby. -
Ask for support:
Involve your partner, housemates, friends and colleagues in this phase. Ask fellow smokers to stop offering you a cigarette and consider smoke-free zones in your area.
With these tips, you are well prepared to successfully quit smoking. You can do this!
Quitting sugar
Sugar is another habit that many people want to break. Eating too much sugar leads to weight gain, obesity, diabetes, headaches, acne, hormonal problems, disturbed intestinal flora and other health problems.
-
Reduce stress:
Stress makes you crave sugar because your body needs readily available energy. Try meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises to reduce stress and limit sugar intake. -
Eat enough proteins and fats:
Make sure your meals contain enough protein and healthy fats. This will help you feel full and reduce sugar cravings. -
3 eating moments:
Choose three balanced meals a day instead of too many snacks. This helps to maintain stable blood sugar levels. -
Reading labels:
Become a label expert and spot hidden sugars in processed foods. Avoid products with lots of added sugars and choose natural alternatives. -
Healthy substitutes:
Make sure you have healthy replacements in your home. Life is not a punishment and you are allowed to enjoy yourself. Here is a delicious recipe for sugar-free energy balls:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup dates, pitted
- 1 cup mixed organic raw nuts (e.g. almonds, cashews)
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- A pinch of salt
Step-by-step plan:
- Place all ingredients in a food processor and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Roll the dough into small balls.
- Place the balls in the refrigerator to stiffen.
These sugar-free energy balls are a healthy alternative to sugary snacks.

Vitamin C and Astaxanthin for Healthy Skin
Finally, we want to give our body a helping hand. Because this lifestyle causes a lot of waste products in our body, an aging skin and perhaps other physical complaints.
#01 Vitamin C and #08 Astaxanthin are two antioxidants. We all need these, but if you smoke or eat a lot of sugar they are extra important.
#01 Vitamin C stimulates collagen production, which helps reduce wrinkles and maintain a youthful appearance.
#08 Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from sun damage, smoking, too much sugar and pollution, making it an essential ingredient for healthy skin.
